Since joining The Island Project, Sophie, a Year 6 student has made impressive progress and is growing in confidence and independence each week. A recent highlight was completing the full pig care routine independently — a significant achievement for someone still relatively new to the farm and a clear sign of how far they have come.

Over the past few weeks, Sophie has taken part in a wide range of practical sessions. She has helped care for the pigs, chickens, small animals and alpacas, taking responsibility for feeding, refreshing water and maintaining clean living spaces. Sophie’s calm, focused approach to animal care has been consistently noted.

Alongside the practical work, Sophie has engaged positively in learning activities including relaxed Maths and English sessions, creative art projects, and themed activities. These have included making a treat toy box for their dog, producing butterfly artwork for World Wildlife Day, and taking part in Viking themed crafts where they designed their own shield and sword.

Sophie has also contributed well during group discussions and documentary sessions, showing curiosity, a sense of humour and the ability to interact positively with both staff and peers.

Sophie’s enthusiasm, increasing independence and willingness to try new experiences have made them a valued member of the farm community. Staff are incredibly proud of the progress they continue to make and look forward to seeing this development continue.
