J16 Hair and Beauty are delighted to announce the winners of this year’s Mood Board Challenge, an integral component of the mandatory unit UC05 (see below for details) within the Hair & Beauty qualification. This year’s competition was proudly won by three shared placement students.
Voting was carried out by staff from Respect Collaboration of Schools engaged in Alternative Provision and Applied Learning, who were impressed by the calibre of entries — congratulations to all students who participated!

About UC05 – Create a Hair and Beauty Image Using Colour
Learning Outcome 2 – Task A: Mood Board Planning and Design
You are required to plan and create a mood board to develop ideas for your hair and beauty image using colour.
Your mood board should showcase your design concept and include inspiration drawn from at least three different sources.
These may include:
- Books
- Trade magazines
- Websites • Trade shows
- Newspapers
The mood board should demonstrate thoughtful planning and clearly reflect the theme and creative direction of your final image.
