Building More Than Shelters
At Junction 16 Outdoor Education, our learners take on the challenge of constructing both natural and man-made shelters — from stick-built dens and tarp setups to intricate lashings and knots.
These activities aren’t just about survival skills — they’re about personal growth. When learners collaborate to build something tangible, they’re also developing key life skills such as problem-solving, resilience, critical thinking, teamwork, and communication. They plan, adapt, test ideas, and learn through trial and error, developing perseverance and creativity along the way.
Each shelter built is more than a physical structure — it’s a reflection of determination, curiosity, and teamwork. These experiences help learners transfer valuable skills into the classroom, the workplace, and everyday life.
At Junction 16, we believe in learning by doing — developing confidence, independence, and self-belief through hands-on challenges in nature.’
