This year 10 student has made a very positive start to their time at The Island Project. During a gardening session, they showed excellent enthusiasm and a strong work rate while helping to turn a compost pile that had become compacted. This was physically demanding work, but they approached the task with energy and a genuine can‑do attitude, demonstrating real determination. They also helped to sow a new row of carrots, carefully following instructions and contributing well to the task.

The student has also engaged well with the animals, supporting work with pigs, chickens, and small animals. They completed welfare tasks responsibly and showed a calm, sensible approach when interacting with the animals. During the afternoon roundup, they worked well to help feed and put the animals away and clearly enjoyed taking part in the routine of the farm. They have already demonstrated a clear enjoyment of being active outdoors and working with animals – activities that provide valuable opportunities to build confidence, responsibility, and teamwork.

It has been great to see the student beginning to settle into the rhythm of the farm, and we look forward to seeing their skills and confidence continue to develop over the coming weeks
